TheOpportunity
WSDOT Technology Services Division (TSD) Field Services team is currently seeking a Field Services Technician in Vancouver, WA to support the Olympic and Southwest Regions. In this role, working under the Field Services Supervisor, you will be responsible for configuring, installing, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting WSDOT workstations, peripheral, and mobile devices and associated operating systems and software. The Field Services Technician will be responsible for the researching, receiving, storing, disposition, issuing, inventory, tracking, auditing, and surplus activities of all information technology products for both Regions.
Successful candidates will also deploy workstations, mobile devices, peripherals, and software to end‑users while ensuring software licensing compliance, perform inventory audits, generate reports on both inventory and license compliance to peers, supervisor, and IT management. A strong candidate will demonstrate foundational technical aptitude, effective customer service skills, clear written and verbal communication, the ability to follow established procedures, and the capacity to learn and apply enterprise IT standards in a team‑based environment.

The Olympic‑Southwest Technology Services team provides a wide array of technology services, assistance and consultation to over 1,400 employees and 2,382 IT end devices remotely and at 54 sites within 13 counties for two distinct business regions, Olympic and Southwest, enabling WSDOT employees to complete their assigned work activities in support of the agency’s mission.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Field Services Technician will:
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues using specialized tools and test equipment.
- Use standard agency imaging tools to deploy and configure workstations with approved software.
- Ensure systems are properly set up for end‑user productivity and compliance.
- Maintain and update operating systems to align with current agency standards and security protocols.
- Deliver clear, effective training and guidance to both technical and non‑technical users.
- Coordinate with peers across regions to deliver consistent, high‑quality IT support; share knowledge and best practices to improve service delivery agency wide.
- Perform IT procurement for hardware, software, goods, and services; manage IT product and asset records by entering, tracking, auditing, updating, and reporting using agency service management software.
- Conduct periodic physical inventories and reconcile discrepancies in service management systems.
- Ensure compliance with agency and state‑level IT acquisition and asset management policies.
- Install, configure, and maintain peripheral devices such as printers, monitors, docking stations, webcams, scanners, and external storage; troubleshoot and resolve hardware compatibility and connectivity issues.

- IT Support & Technical Services: Demonstrated experience and the ability to provide professional IT support with a focus on workstation hardware, operating systems, and end‑user software, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of computing devices and peripherals.
