As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will:

• Drive technology choices for customers and the business, leading continuous innovation and shaping the future of e‑commerce.
• Apply deep subject‑matter expertise in large language models and generative AI across various modalities.
• Collaborate with multiple teams of scientists and engineers to translate business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables.
• Invent new product experiences that enable shoppers to navigate our inventory via search queries, multi‑turn conversations, or other input modes.
• Coordinate with internal Amazon partners to bring state‑of‑the‑art GenAI models to production to power novel conversational experiences.
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in GenAI and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Contribute to a long‑term science vision for our advertising business in conversational shopping and beyond.

• PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of applied machine‑learning experience in building complex, real‑time AI/ML/NLP systems with successful delivery to customers.
• Hands‑on experience designing and prototyping AI solutions for real‑world applications.

• Research publications or patents in generative AI technologies.
• Experience with natural language processing and generative model architectures.
• Background in advertising technology or e‑commerce platforms.
• Demonstrated track record of innovative AI solution development.
• Experience with advertising systems and applications.

The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000 per year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400 per year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other compensation may be provided as part of the total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
