CNA Financial Lines has an opening for a Complex Claims Consultant handling Private D&O, Fiduciary and Employment Practice Liability (EPL) Claims. This individual will work with insureds, attorneys and brokers regarding the handling and/or disposition of mid to high severity claims.

This individual will investigate claims, coordinate discovery, and team with defense counsel on litigation strategy. The role requires a high degree of specialization: reviewing coverage, determining liability and damages, setting financial reserves, negotiating settlements, and presenting claims to leadership.

CNA offers a hybrid work environment in Chicago, Glastonbury, Lake Mary, Wyomissing or the NYC area. Candidates near any CNA location will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Manage an inventory of highly complex Financial Lines claims, verify policy coverage, conduct investigations, develop resolution strategies, and authorize disbursements within authority limits.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim, meeting quality and cycle time standards, and responding promptly to inquiries.
  • Verify coverage and establish reserves by reviewing policy language and partnering with coverage counsel on complex matters.
  • Lead investigations to determine compensability, liability and covered damages by gathering pertinent information and working with experts.
  • Resolve claims by collaborating with internal and external partners to develop and execute a claim resolution strategy, manage reserves, negotiate settlements and manage litigation.
  • Establish and manage claim budgets by achieving timely resolution, selecting resources and authorizing expense payments.
  • Identify subrogation/salvage opportunities or potential fraud and refer to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain quality standards by ensuring protocols are followed, work is accurate, files are documented and claims are paid timely.
  • Keep senior leadership informed of significant risks and losses through loss summaries and presentations.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor, guide, develop and train less experienced Claim Professionals.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial insurance, products, policy language, coverage and claim practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Analytical and investigative mindset with critical thinking skills.
  • Strong work ethic, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑productivity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex settlements.
  • Experience interpreting complex specialty insurance policies.
  • Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn business software.
  • Demonstrated respect for diverse opinions and ideas.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; JD preferred.
  • Typically a minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience, preferably in claim handling.
