Job Title: Korean Interpreter

Location: Onsite servicing King County

Job Type: Independent Contractor

The Korean In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• Exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
• Respect and understand our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
• Maintain a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Render accurate and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.

• Fluent in both Korean and English with strong verbal communication skills.
• Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy during interpretation.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
• Knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Ability to read and write in Korean and English.
• Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
• Completion of an accredited medical interpreting training course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
