Korean In-Person Interpreter (IPI)Job Title: Korean Interpreter
Location: Onsite servicing King County
Job Type: Independent Contractor
Position Overview:The Korean In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.
Job Functions- Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
- Exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
- Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
- Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
- Respect and understand our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
- Maintain a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Render accurate and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
- Fluent in both Korean and English with strong verbal communication skills.
- Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy during interpretation.
- Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
- Knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to read and write in Korean and English.
- Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
- National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
- Completion of an accredited medical interpreting training course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
