Job Title: Chuukese Interpreter

Location: Onsite servicing King County

Job Type: Independent Contractor

Position Overview: The Chuukese In-Person Interpreter facilitates onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and practitioners in various settings. This flexible contract position offers opportunities to expand your interpreting business with multiple sessions per day.

Job Functions:

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions professionally.
• Maintain professional appearance, punctuality, and preparedness.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Follow interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work in diverse environments.
• Respect and understand LEP clients' culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
• Show passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and politeness.
• Render accurate concepts and meanings according to protocol.

Qualifications:

• Fluent in both source and target languages (Chuukese and English).
• Excellent listening and retention skills for accuracy.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or national certification.
• Knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to read and write in requested languages.
• Interpreting practice degrees or certifications.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, DSHS).
• Accredited medical interpreting training (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap).
