Position Overview: The Lao In-Person Interpreter facilitates onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and practitioners in various settings.

Job Functions:

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions professionally.
• Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Follow interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for LEP clients' culture, dialect, and beliefs.
• Exhibit a passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocols.

Qualifications:

• Fluent in Lao and English, with strong verbal communication skills.
• Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or hold a national certification.
• Knowledge of ethical standards (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to read and write in Lao and English.
• Interpreting certifications or degrees.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI, DSHS).
• Completion of accredited medical interpreting courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap).
