Arabic In-Person Interpreter (IPI)
Job Title: Arabic Interpreter
Location: Onsite servicing King County
Job Type: Independent Contractor
The Arabic In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) communities and the practitioners who serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.
Job Functions- Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
- Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
- Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to the interpreting context.
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
- Respect for and understanding of LEP clients, culture, dialect, and beliefs and preferences.
- Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
- Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both Arabic and English (in both directions).
- Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
- Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
- Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read and write in Arabic and English.
- Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
- National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS.
- Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
