The Marshallese In-Person Interpreter facilitates onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and the practitioners who serve them across diverse settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to multiple sessions per day.

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• Exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting contexts.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity while working in a diverse environment.
• Respect and understand LEP clients, culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
• Show strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.

• Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both Marshallese and English.
• Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain high accuracy during interpretation.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or a national certification.
• Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
• Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
• Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
