the Role
A large portion of global remittance volume still moves through physical, in-person channels: agent locations, ethnic grocery and retail storefronts, check-cashing outlets, and other brick-and-mortar money transfer points. The Director of Offline Customer Acquisition owns the strategy and execution required to reach these customers where they send money today and convert them into active Remitly customers. This is a new, strategic leadership role.
You will be tasked with creating a new capability from the ground up — you'll build the offline acquisition strategy and drive it forward working with teams across Remitly.
- Define and own the strategy for acquiring customers who currently send remittances through physical, in-person channels, and converting them into active Remitly customers.
- Use transaction, demographic, and competitive data to identify and prioritize the geographies, communities, and storefront networks with the greatest offline-to-digital opportunity.
- Design and run in-market acquisition programs: in-store signage and point-of-sale partnerships, local sponsor ships and community activation, local media in relevant languages, direct mail, and grassroots or field marketing.
- Build and manage a network of external partners — media and creative agencies, local marketing vendors, and retail or community partners — to execute campaigns across multiple markets and languages.
- Partner with Legal and Compliance on any in-store, partner-facing, or community marketing materials and program structures.
- Define success metrics for offline acquisition (cost per acquisition, activation rate, retention of offline-acquired cohorts) and build a measurement approach with Analytics for channels that lack native digital tracking.
- Collaborate with Brand, Growth Marketing, Product, and regional teams so offline programs stay consistent with brand and reinforce — rather than duplicate — digital acquisition efforts.
- Own the offline acquisition budget, negotiate vendor and media contracts, and report on program performance and ROI to leadership.
- Continuously test and iterate go-to-market approaches by channel, geography, and community to find what reliably converts offline senders to Remitly.
- 8+ years in marketing, growth, or business development, including meaningful experience in offline, local, or community marketing, retail partnerships, or channel marketing.
- A track record of building and running acquisition programs outside digital channels — direct mail, out-of-home, local sponsor ships, retail or point-of-sale partnerships, community or ethnic media.
- Comfort with building a new business: skilled at directing agencies and vendors to bootstrap a business; rallying cross-functional partners without formal authority; and ultimately making strategic hires to build a high performing…
