Position Overview
The ambulatory float pool provides coverage and support for the Ambulatory Specialty departments within Seattle Children’s Hospital across multiple sites of care to ensure adequate staffing to meet the needs of our patients and families. Float nurses partner with interdisciplinary care teams consisting of, but not limited to, MDs, PAs, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, social workers, nutritionists, and specialty-based technicians in each department.
Our nursing team supports both direct patient care and back office or between clinic management. Direct patient care includes complex care coordination, preoperative, post-operative and diagnosis specific teaching and family support. Our back-office roles focus on telephone triage and “after-visit” care coordination. Float nurses are expected to develop a broad knowledge base in ambulatory pediatric nursing but do focus on a smaller group of subspecialties for their day-to-day work.

- Provide safe, family-centered patient care using the Nursing Care Process: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and their family, significant others, and the health care team.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.
- Assist in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into daily work – Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, Workforce Community and Connection, etc.
