Region I

Primary to Virginia Mason Medical Center, but if needed, travelers will be required to float throughout Region One:
St. Anne Hospital - Burien, WA;
St. Francis Hospital - Federal Way, WA;
Virginia Mason Medical Center - Seattle, WA. Additional hours when floated within Region I that's not the primary facility.

BIWEEKLY General Hospital Orientation Dates - MUST start on a GHO date.

If an off week orientation date at VMMC they will start at SANH and then be moved to VMMC the following week for Unit / Department Float Pool

• Telemetry & Progressive Care

Nurse Patient Ratios

4-5 patients to one MS; 3 patients to 1 RN on progressive care

Required Certifications

BLS, ACLS

Common Diagnoses / Types of Patients

• Med-surg
• Post op surgical patients
• PCU (strokes)
• Lines
• Drains
• Chest tubes
• CHF
• Post vascular procedures
• Arrhythmias
• DKA

Must Have Skills / Experience

• Med-surg experience
• PCU / Stepdown level of experience

Drip Management

Are RNs required to titrate drips? Sometimes not usually on med-surg units

Common titratable &/or set rate drips

• Heparin
• Nicardipine (titratable)
• NTG
• Insulin
• Cardizem
• Fixed: dopamine / dobutamine (for stepdown)

Charge Nurse / House Supervisor

Does the charge nurse take an assignment? They will not be acting as house supervisor or charge nurse. Charge nurse does not always take an assignment

Nurse Aids / Ratios

Are there nurse aids on this unit? Ratios: yes, the ratio is 10 patients to 1 housewide

RT Equipment

• Cpap
• BiPap (sometimes)

Telemetry

Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips? Yes, remote cardiac monitoring. RNs read strips

Shifts & Scheduling

Do you allow self-scheduling? Yes, self scheduling. Block scheduling? No

Weekend Requirements

Every other weekend
