Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with strong high-risk delivery experience and proficiency in newborn care for a night shift position.
Responsibilities
• Position is located in a high-volume, high-acuity Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting
• Unit averages deliveries per month with 31 rooms and 4 ORs
• Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, and those requiring substance recovery support
• Required to circulate during deliveries and function as Baby Nurse for newborn care
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30), including every other weekend and holidays as needed
• Floating required to Postpartum, Antepartum, and sister mother/baby units within the state
• Unit follows AWHONN staffing guidelines for patient care
• Uses Epic EMR and electronic fetal monitoring equipment
• Responsibilities include circulating deliveries, performing newborn assessments and interventions, and administering medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate
• Must provide continuous newborn care from delivery until transfer to postpartum
• Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team including midwives, OBs, and recovery services staff
• Full compliance with onboarding and completed modules required prior to start
• Rotation of posted schedules every 6 weeks to meet unit needs
• Floating between facilities within the state, with refusal to float possibly resulting in termination
• Holiday and weekend coverage is based on unit need
• Perm staff from other Providence facilities must have a 3-month separation before eligibility as a traveler
Requirements
• Active WA or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 3-5 years recent high-risk Labor & Delivery experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Experience circulating in L&D and providing comprehensive newborn care including eyes, thighs, assessment, and Vit K injections is mandatory
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required; ACLS and AWHONN Advanced/Intermediate preferred
• Must provide at least 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of employment within the past 3 years
• Ability to pass clinical review and provide proof of required certifications and current Nursys verification
• Epic EMR experience required
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
