Licensed Veterinary Technician – Care Vet (Sunset Hill Veterinary and Rehabilitation Center), Seattle, WA
Base pay: $32.00/hr – $36.00/hr
We are seeking a licensed Veterinary Technician to lead both general practice surgery and regenerative medicine procedures. The role reports directly to the Medical Director and Hospital Manager. Responsibilities include training, supervising, and assisting veterinary technicians and assistants; maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations; managing patient records; performing clinical procedures such as anesthesia induction, specimen collection, and in‑patient care; and collaborating with the hospital leadership team to sustain an inclusive culture.
Responsibilities- Train, supervise, and assist veterinary technicians and assistants in technical skills and client education.
- Work closely with the Hospital Manager and Medical Director to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to animal health and welfare.
- Maintain a strong understanding of veterinary products and medications.
- Collaborate on establishing standard operating procedures and monitor performance.
- Check patient medical records, enter treatments and charges into the computer system.
- Restrain animals for the Veterinarian as required.
- Maintain client educational material efficiently.
- Draw blood and perform testing procedures following medical orders.
- Assist the Veterinarian with in‑patient care and IV fluid calculations.
- Perform anesthesia induction and monitoring.
- Dispense medication and feed patients as directed.
- Communicate with pet owners about medications, potential complications, and warnings.
- Utilize the computer system to enter and reference patient information.
- Perform necessary lab work such as x‑rays, CBCs, blood profiles, urinalysis, and cultures.
- Document and deliver test results promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms.
- Handle all x‑ray processing tasks.
- Take medical histories and vital signs of patients.
- Perform departmental housekeeping duties.
- Admit and discharge patients.
- Process prescription refills and communicate with pharmacies.
- Be able to lift 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and stand on feet for long periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, the Licensed Veterinary Technician must be able to multitask, think quickly, and develop positive working relationships. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, exhibits exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and thrives in a busy, team‑oriented environment.
SkillsThe Lead Veterinary Technician should possess knowledge in dental cleanings, charting tooth abnormalities, anesthesia induction and monitoring, surgical preparation, intravenous catheter placement, vaccination administration, venipuncture, in‑house lab work, and filling prescriptions.
Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED; 3–5 years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Past leadership experience is highly preferred. Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Washington is required.
