Overview

We are seeking an experienced Supervisor for the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL). This role oversees departmental staff, manages daily operations and projects, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and provides technical expertise in specialized testing. The Supervisor will also contribute to quality improvement, process development, and staff training while occasionally performing laboratory testing.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and develop staff, including hiring, training, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee scheduling, workload distribution, and workflow to meet turnaround goals and customer needs.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, FDA, AABB, CAP, GMP/GLP, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate error management, SOP revisions, validations, and process improvements.
  • Participate in budget planning, resource management, and LEAN initiatives.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex testing, physician consultations, and interdepartmental projects.
  • Support laboratory inspections, proficiency testing, and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Provide on-call supervisory coverage and assist in special projects, research, or training as needed.
Qualifications
  • Must qualify as General Supervisor, High Complexity Testing, under CLIA requirements.
  • Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) certification required; MLS certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience, including at least 2 years in immunohematology reference testing.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory standards, immunohematology methods, and molecular techniques (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
Working Conditions
  • Highly regulated environment with direct exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Requires standing, repetitive motions, lifting up to 20 lbs, and occasional freezer/cold room work.
  • Includes occasional on-call, weekend, holiday, and extended shift coverage.
  • Limited telecommuting may be available.
