Postdoctoral Fellow (Hood) – Institute for Systems Biology (ISB)
The Hood group is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow to work as part of an interdisciplinary team that uses animal and human data to understand the biological underpinnings of longevity and scientific wellness, and to develop potential interventions that extend healthspan.
We are seeking applicants with diverse skillsets in systems biology and computational modeling, along with familiarity with the biology of aging. This position may have opportunities to collaborate as a participant in the Longevity Consortium, a multidisciplinary, inter‑institutional research team funded by the NIA. Several large, multi‑omic datasets are being developed by the Consortium, including mass‑spectrometry based proteomics and metabolomics of mouse tissues and serum, and human serum.
With phenotypic information and external datasets, these data will be used to define the pathways that are critical for longevity and related outcomes. Opportunities to contribute to other projects related more generally to scientific wellness also exist. Major emphases will include identifying proteomic and metabolomic signatures that are associated with longevity and scientific wellness, as well as using systems‑oriented methods to identify the major pathways involved.
This effort will require creative use of state‑of‑the‑art data integration, harmonization and statistical approaches. Exceptional candidates will be considered for the Lee Hood Systems Fellows Program.
• Conduct data‑driven research to identify proteomic and metabolomic markers of longevity and scientific wellness.
• Apply systems biology, computational modeling, biostatistics, and applied mathematics to large, multi‑omic datasets.
• Collaborate with the Longevity Consortium and other interdisciplinary teams to integrate human and animal data.
• Develop and implement innovative statistical and computational methods for data integration and pathway analysis.
• Communicate findings through presentations, manuscripts, and collaboration with investigators.
- Applicants must have (or soon be granted) a PhD, and successful candidates will have cross‑disciplinary training in systems biology, computational biology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with human research is desired but not required.
- Strong analytical skills, a track record demonstrating scientific creativity, excellent communication skills, and the potential to thrive in an interdisciplinary research environment are essential.
Applicants should include a CV and a brief (one page) cover letter summarizing their background and future research interests. All ISB staff members are expected to have baseline technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately over email, the intranet/forum, etc. Employees should be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint at a functional level.
