Research Scientist, Biotech Research, Immunology Research
At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits.
This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it. The Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is one of BMS’s differentiated research platforms delivering innovative therapies to patients. Our mission is to drive leadership in the use of cellular therapies to harness the power of the immune system in treating hematologic malignancies, solid cancers, and autoimmune disease.
More specifically, our discovery and translational scientists are focused on developing next-generation, engineered cell-based therapies. The team is committed to discovering and developing transformative therapies that harness the power of the immune system to improve patient outcomes.
In this role as a Scientist, Non‑Viral Gene Editing Platforms, the ideal candidate:
- Spends a majority of the time working in the lab independently executing experiments and recording detailed ELN entries
- Works diligently within the team to optimize base ex vivo editing platform and implement new technologies for continuous improvement and next-gen in vivo platform development (e.g., lipid nanoparticles)
- Routinely generates CAR‑T cells including non‑viral gene editing, expansion, and cryopreservation of engineered cells
- Thoroughly characterizes engineered CAR‑T cells including phenotypic analysis via flow cytometry, in vitro cytotoxicity assays (e.g., Incucyte), and genomic DNA extraction for downstream molecular analysis
- Independently analyses and interprets experimental data, experience with large and complex datasets a plus
- Actively troubleshoots routine problems and initiatives related to continuous improvement or development of new approaches / technologies
- Proactively communicates and aligns with team members to achieve results and support cross‑functional activities
- Generates key data to support decisions that impact the larger team
- Presents findings in multidisciplinary meetings, logically explaining complex scientific concepts and clearly highlighting key messages
- May represent department or team on program/project team or sub‑team

- Bachelor’s Degree 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience
- Master’s Degree 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience
- Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences
- Hands‑on experience with gene editing technologies (CRISPR/Prime editing preferred)
- Experience with in vivo non‑viral gene delivery platforms (including non‑cell therapy applications)
- Strong knowledge of molecular biology and prior experience with DNA design tools such as Benchling, Geneious, etc.
- Experience culturing T cells including aseptic technique, T cell activation, and maintenance of primary cell cultures
- Experience with multi‑color flow cytometry including complex panel design and multi‑parameter data analysis (Flow Jo)
- Ability to effectively multi‑task, independently organize time, and can develop timelines and deliver results accordingly
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team and thrive in a fast‑paced and ever‑changing environment
- Detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills and careful documentation (prior ELN experience a plus)
