We are looking for an as‑needed Archaeologist III-IV to oversee cultural resources projects in Washington and Oregon.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the cultural resources team with senior review of technical documents and mentorship of junior staff.
- Implement and manage projects from start to finish, including surveys, subsurface explorations, significance testing, mitigation data recovery, and archaeological monitoring.
- Key responsibilities:
- Apply local, state, and federal regulations.
- Create research designs, scopes of work, schedules, and permit applications.
- Coordinate with project administrators, accountants, clients, Native American tribes, and agencies.
- Ensure projects are staffed appropriately and fieldwork is directed or delegated.
- Review field logs, GIS data, and field forms for quality control.
- Lead laboratory analysis for collected materials.
- Author, review, and submit technical reports, addressing comments from clients, tribes, or agency staff.
- Support clients through regulatory processes.
- Commit to timely completion of high‑quality work.
- Apply excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Graduate degree (Master’s or Doctoral) in archaeology or anthropology.
- Minimum 12 years of supervisory and management experience in cultural resource management or a regulatory setting.
- Knowledge of Oregon, Washington, and Pacific Northwest archaeology and ethnography.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal cultural resources regulations.
- Supervisory experience on archaeological monitoring, survey, and excavation projects for diverse client types.
- Excellent technical writing skills (samples requested).
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites for several consecutive days.
- Valid driver’s license and active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment.
- Specialized expertise in lithic technology, osteoarchaeology, geoarchaeology, ethnography/ethnohistory, or remote sensing.
- Experience using ESRI ArcGIS Online and other ESRI tools.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
- Conflict resolution skills through collaboration and communication.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional project site visits outdoors with noise, uneven terrain, extreme weather, moving vehicles, and equipment.
- Prolonged computer use, sitting, or standing in an office or remote setting.
- Capability to bend, squat, climb ladders, and lift up to 35 lbs unassisted; 50 lbs in a team lift.
- Attendance at in‑person and virtual meetings, phone communication.
- Vision requirements for detailed field and laboratory work.
