About Columbia Fire

At Columbia Fire, we protect what matters — people, property, and peace of mind. Our mission? Helping communities stay safe through expert installation, inspection, service, and maintenance of fire and life safety systems. We’re proud of the work we do because it truly makes a difference.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Fire Alarm Technician to join our team in Seattle, WA. This role is boots‑on‑the‑ground and hands‑on — testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and servicing fire alarm systems across a wide range of commercial facilities. You’ll be out in the field solving problems, meeting customers, inspecting systems, and helping keep buildings safe and code‑compliant.

What You’ll Do
  • Test and inspect fire alarm systems across commercial sites, following NFPA 72 and local codes
  • Repair fire alarm systems (meter ground faults, trace shorts, upgrade devices)
  • Monitoring takeovers (installation of dialers, troubleshooting phone line issues, testing signals)
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on fire alarm systems from multiple manufacturers
  • Document inspection results clearly and completely using an iPad and our inspection software
  • Install or assist with installation of low‑voltage wiring, fire alarm devices, and conduit (EMT and rigid)
  • Program fire panels, specifically Edwards, Potter, Silent Knight and/or Fire‑Lite primarily.
  • Help train junior techs on proper inspection and installation methods
  • Communicate daily with schedulers, project managers, and customers to keep jobs moving and build trust
  • Flag any deficiencies or issues and coordinate with service team for repairs
  • Occasionally assist with scheduling inspections with AHJs (fire marshals), including online portals and calls
  • Represent Columbia Fire in a professional, friendly, and respectful way — we’re known for great customer service, and that starts with you
Who You Are
  • A confident technician who can work independently and communicate clearly
  • A strong problem solver who likes hands‑on work and isn’t afraid to dig into technical details
  • A team player who is open to training others and being trained yourself
  • A person who cares about doing work that matters — protecting people and places
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience testing, inspecting, installing, or programming commercial fire alarm systems
  • NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems (or higher)
  • Seattle FA1 certification
  • Active Washington State 06 or 01 journeyman low voltage license
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Familiarity with NFPA 72 and 70
  • Strong computer and mobile device skills (iPad, Microsoft Office, cloud‑based apps)
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre‑employment drug screen
Preferred (But Not Required)
  • Cross‑training and licensing in related life safety systems:
  • Fixed wet/dry chemical suppression systems
  • Emergency lighting or exit signs
  • Backflow prevention or basic fire sprinkler knowledge
  • Experience with commercial intrusion alarms, access control, CCTV, or nurse call systems
  • Electrical or fire alarm system licensing in OR, , NV, and/or UT
  • Will result in higher pay if you hold these states in addition to WA
  • Bilingual or professional fluency in Spanish, Chinese, or other languages
  • Prior experience communicating with AHJs or scheduling inspections
  • EMT/rigid conduit installation skills
Why Join Columbia Fire?

  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays
  • Company‑paid life and disability insurance
  • Training and continuing education opportunities
  • Career growth and leadership pathways
  • Company vehicle or vehicle allowance (depending on role and location)
