Community Based Safety Specialist

Location: Onsite at Seattle Treatment in Motion (TIM) sites

Schedule: Monday - Saturday 4:30am - 2pm (Variable hours, rotating Saturdays)

Compensation: $28.85 - $31.25 per hour

Job Summary
  • The Community Based Safety Specialist is part of the Behavioral Health team that supports ETS’ mission by overseeing safety and client engagement while out in the community.
  • This role ensures patients and staff are provided with a safe and therapeutic environment.
What You Contribute To This Role – Responsibilities
  • Help ETS succeed in carrying out its mission by working with staff to transform systems of harm and inequity.
  • Assist with the organization‑wide initiative to reimagine our interconnectedness within the community.
  • Operate and drive a 20‑30 foot transport or RV‑style vehicle in high traffic areas.
  • Set up and break down a mobile treatment facility in an urban environment.
  • Develop professional rapport and trusting relationships with patients through respectful, person‑centered engagement practices.
  • Orient new patients to remote TIM locations and manage patient flow.
  • Monitor patients’ activities within the immediate vicinity of the remote treatment locations to address safety risks or violations.
  • Submit incident reports or other documentation and monitor hazardous materials and conditions.
  • Collaborate with Counselors and Case Managers to support individual service plans for patients with challenging behaviors.
  • Uphold strict patient confidentiality and safeguard sensitive security‑related information.
  • Conduct twice‑daily safety inspections of the mobile treatment unit during check‑out and check‑in.
  • Maintain critical functions of the mobile treatment vehicle such as gray‑water tank, tire pressure, fluid levels, and gas tank.
  • Assist with receiving and stocking supplies for the mobile treatment unit.
  • Assist emergency services during response at remote treatment locations.
  • Respond to all mobile treatment facility alarm activations (security, duress, fire, intrusion).
  • Help implement systems to support patients with behavioral issues in a highly stimulating urban environment.
  • Attend ETS team meetings and other required meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education and/or Relevant and Lived

    Experience:

    • High School graduation or equivalent.
    • Undergraduate degree desirable, preferably in social services. SUDP/SUDPT a plus.
    • Previous experience in a safety‑related role, especially with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Knowledge and

    Skills:

    • Understanding of racial justice and social equity and a commitment to creating an equitable environment.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.
    • Customer service experience and/or training.
    • Valid driver’s license; experience driving a truck, van, or RV in an urban environment highly desirable.
    • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and complete tasks efficiently.
    • Dependable, able to work under pressure, receptive to change, willing to learn, cooperative problem‑solving approach.
    • Flexible team player with excellent attention to detail.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion with sensitive information.
    • Ability to set boundaries, resolve conflict, and de‑escalate issues.
    • Computer literate; basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and initiative to keep up with technology changes.
Physical Conditions and Requirements
  • Exposure to illicit drug residues, bio‑hazardous materials, and potential blood borne pathogens; training provided.
  • Requirements include frequent standing, walking, kneeling, occasional climbing, stooping, occasional crouching or crawling. Work outside in inclement weather.
  • Occasional lifting/moving up to 30 pounds; vision requirements: close, color, peripheral vision and focus adjustment. Moderate noise level.

  • Possible use of a program vehicle (valid driver’s license required).
