Schedule: Monday – Friday with possibilities of evenings, weekends, holidays. Hours are subject to change during summer.
Job Overview: As a Community Center Assistant, you will assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining thriving programs for the Salvation Army’s Seattle White Center location. Your role is to provide quality and sustainable services to all individuals who desire to be part of our growing community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in organization and implementation of Summer Day Camp programs as assigned.
- Create a positive experience in the Gym and Game room.
- Recruit volunteers for events, activities, and other program needs.
- Work with the Community Center Director to provide regular events such as tournaments, game challenges, and trips.
- Supervise the gym, game room, and front office as assigned; ensure areas are not left unattended except when relieved.
- Lead activities as assigned and maintain knowledge of programs, hours, and community center events; promote and encourage participation.
- Respond to telephone, email, and in‑person inquiries promptly.
- Maintain timely communication with supervisor and record daily statistics.
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining the gym areas.
- Know all exits, emergency exits, fire extinguisher locations, and first aid supplies.
- Issue equipment and games only to members with valid membership and follow checkout procedures.
- Notify supervisor of any program or equipment needs.
- Assume responsibility for all programs, activities, or events during the absence of the Community Center Director.
- Check both clients and members in using the KROC system CCMS.
- Drive for other programs when necessary and meet all required driving qualifications.
- Perform other job‑related duties assigned by supervisor.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience with youth.
- Experience working with children in an educational environment.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English.
- Active WA driver’s license required.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new information and skills.
- Experience tutoring multiple age groups.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Understanding and appreciation of children.
- Obtain within 90 days a current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate card.
- Pass a TSA background check and comply with Protecting the Mission requirements.
- Obtain WA State Food Worker’s Card within one month.
- Willingness to serve a diverse population.
- Sensitivity to the comprehensive mission of The Salvation Army.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self‑motivated with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a challenging environment and maintain poise under pressure.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to de‑escalate confrontational situations.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
- Data Entry for client information.
- Basic internet skills.
- Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Operate a telephone and a desktop or laptop computer.
- Move and lift up to 35 lbs. regularly.
