Summer Food Service Program Overview
The Seattle Human Services Department’s mission is to connect people with resources and solutions during times of need so we can all learn, work, and take part in strong, healthy communities. Through the lens of racial equity, HSD supports programs, initiatives, and policies that address six key impact areas: preparing youth for success; supporting affordability and livability; addressing homelessness; promoting public health;
responding to gender-based violence; and promoting healthy aging.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides nutritious food to youth ages 1-18 in low-income communities. The City of Seattle sponsors these federally funded meals and snacks to youth ages 1-18 at approximately 100 locations throughout Seattle, including playgrounds, community centers, library branches, summer schools, youth clubs, cultural organizations, housing communities. Simply stated, the Summer Food Service Program’s goal is to connect youth with nutritious meals and meaningful academic/cultural activities when school is out.
Job ResponsibilitiesThis position performs food delivery duties for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). SFSP is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funded program that provides free meals to children and youth, 0-18 years of age, in low-income areas. The position requires the ability to drive a city‑issued vehicle from the Seattle School District kitchen where our meals are made to designated sites throughout the City of Seattle.
Drivers need to pick up the correct number of meals that need to be delivered to each site, on a designated route. The work requires knowledge of the City of Seattle’s geography and roads and the ability to drive a motor vehicle safely on a strict time schedule. Personal contact is primarily with school district staff and staff of the Summer Food Service Program.
Interaction with site personnel and youth is also necessary.
This job is a high‑energy summer job that provides the opportunity to spend time outdoors and, in the community, while supporting a vital community resource. Ideal candidates are punctual, detail‑oriented and are able to work the full summer without scheduled day off. The job requires the ability to drive a city‑issued vehicle and to manage deliveries on a strict schedule.
Schedule and DurationThis position is a Summer Seasonal full‑time opportunity with typical work hours from 8:00–4:30 and runs from approximately 6/11/2025 – 8/29/2025 and candidates must be available for this entire time period. Due to the nature of the work, this is not a remote position.
