The Credit Decisioning team is essential to every transaction at affirm, providing scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK.

This role is within the Credit Expansion sub‑team, focused on responsibly increasing access to credit while ensuring consistent decision‑making for our users. A key part of the team’s work involves developing new underwriting features and products to support entry into new markets and partnerships.

Working closely with cross‑functional partners in Engineering, Risk, Analytics, Product, and Capital, this role offers a direct opportunity to work on launches that have a significant business impact.

What You’ll Do
  • Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade‑offs.
  • Support the operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on‑call activities.
  • Engage in growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process.
What We Look For
  • 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Ability to translate business scenarios into well‑tested, extensible code.
  • Comfort navigating large codebases, debugging others’ code, and providing constructive code‑review feedback.
  • Proactive ownership of personal growth, seeking feedback from peers, managers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Either equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Compensation

Base Pay Grade – L;
Equity Grade – 6.

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $160,000 – $210,000.

USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $142,000 – $192,000.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).
