Senior/Principal Machine Learning Engineer
Workday, a Fortune 500 AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, is looking for a Senior/Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our Agent Factory team. In this role you will build the core machine learning systems that power the next generation of intelligent agents used by millions of people every day.
About the TeamAgent Factory is a small, senior, cross‑functional AI team that brings together product leaders, machine learning engineers, and full‑stack builders. We own problems end‑to‑end, collaborating tightly across disciplines to deliver production‑grade solutions at global scale. Your work sits at the intersection of AI, platform architecture, and human workflows.
About the RoleAs a Senior/Principal Machine Learning Engineer you will design and build the core ML systems behind Workday’s next generation of AI agents. You will own the entire lifecycle—from problem framing and data strategy to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You will implement and evolve frameworks for LLM‑powered agents, including RAG pipelines, workflow orchestration, evaluation, and feedback loops, ensuring solutions are scalable, observable, and enterprise‑ready.
This role blends ML and platform engineering: you partner closely with software engineers, product managers, and data scientists to integrate agents deeply into the Workday stack.

- Be able to lead, mentor, and manage ML engineering teams, driving sprint planning and fostering collaboration.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, math or a related field (master’s or PhD preferred).
- Stay current with advances in AI, LLMs, RAG, autonomous agents, and orchestration frameworks.
- Deep knowledge of statistical analysis, supervised and unsupervised algorithms, and natural language processing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build strong relationships across teams and stakeholders.
