Overview
Truck Driver 2 – On-Call with the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA). This is an on-call position at the Washington Soldiers Home with opportunities to provide transportation for residents to appointments and daily activities.
Responsibilities- Prepare the vehicle daily for safe operation via checklist and inspections.
- Ensure all tie downs are present and functioning.
- Verify schedule with the dispatch office and prepare lunches for residents as needed.
- Drive residents to appointments safely and efficiently.
- Assist residents before, during, and after appointments with check-in, preparation, and post-appointment activities.
- Receive residents from nursing staff and secure medications and documents prior to transport.
- Maintain clean vehicles and perform basic maintenance and refueling.
- Prepare daily transportation logs and reimbursement forms when required.
- Other duties as assigned managing transportation needs for residents.
- Must be proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Valid driver’s license and at least one year of experience as a Truck Driver 1.
- Class C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements as required by state and federal law, or ability to obtain prior to hire.
- Two years of experience as a truck driver.
- Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to starting and every two years per WDVA policy.
- Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening as per policy.
- Medical evaluation, fit testing, and use of respiratory protection as required; may need to wear PPE.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and access supplies (e.g., reach up to 36 inches); ability to walk, stand, sit, and bend as needed.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license for travel; insurance if driving a personal vehicle on state business.
- Must have work authorization without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
