OverviewThe FCS Foundation is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization founded in 2011 and located at 5204 Paylor Lane in Sarasota, Florida. The FCS Foundation assists cancer patients across the state of Florida. Because of the generosity of the Florida Cancer Specialists partner physicians in covering all overhead expenses for the Foundation, 100% of donations received go directly toward paying the essential non-medical living expenses of an adult battling cancer.
VolunteerDuties
Volunteers brighten up a cancer patient’s day by providing non-medical support while they are undergoing treatment. In the infusion area, volunteers offer a snack or beverage to a patient, hand out warm blankets, share reading materials, talk and listen, wipe down the infusion chairs, and help support the nurses with re-stocking.
Ideal CandidatesIdeal candidates may be a retiree, cancer survivor, or a caregiver of someone with cancer. We would also consider a college student with an interest in oncology, nursing, or medicine.
Time CommitmentMinimum time commitment of 3 hours per week for at least six months.
Other Requirements- Complete a phone interview.
- Complete a criminal history check and drug/nicotine screening.
* Please note that FCS is a nicotine and medical marijuana free workplace. Individuals who test positive for nicotine or medical marijuana will not be permitted to participate in the volunteer program. * - Complete a health screening Tuberculosis (TB) testing and Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella immunizations or approved exemption are required for Patient Support Volunteers.
- An influenza vaccine is required annually (August 1 through March 31).
