Handling multi‑state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. As a Sales and Use Tax Manager, assigned to EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE), you’ll build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients across multiple industries.

Our Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi‑state, sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. It’s here you’ll find everything you need to continue developing as a multi‑state, sales and use tax practitioner.
YourKey Responsibilities
There isn’t an average day for a Sales and Use Tax Manager. You’ll spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks. Clients turn to you for up‑to‑the‑minute tax advice they can always rely on. To succeed, you’ll work in a highly collaborative culture, listening to and sharing information with colleagues.
Skills and Attributes for Success- Researching our clients’ business operations and building long‑lasting relationships
- Identifying applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions
- Identifying potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicating these to clients
- Monitoring current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor
- Developing clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries
- Preparing and defending sales and use tax refund claims
- Participating on a motivated team of professionals
- Managing teams, guaranteeing they have the skills, knowledge and opportunities to reach their full potential
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- Professional knowledge in a broad range of sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools
- Experience managing budgets, people and projects
- A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
- The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects
- Strong influencing skills, and confidence to question existing processes
- Willingness to travel as needed and work in a balanced hybrid environment
- An achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or membership in a state bar
