WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Court Services Officers (CSOs) are a unique class of officers who work under the general direction and command of AST. CSOs conduct duties for the Commissioner of Public Safety under AS , including providing physical security of courtrooms, chambers, and other spaces of the courts including the grounds of court facilities; coordinating and providing prisoner transport; serving court writs; and providing protective details and security for judicial officers.
A CSO is distinguished from State Trooper and other commissioned job classes by its primary focus on providing prisoner transportation, process service, court security, and judicial protection to the court system.

THE WORKING CONDITIONSThere are multiple positions available in this posting with unique opportunities.
- The Anchorage Court Services position is in downtown Anchorage on the main Alaska Court System campus. The work involves local and regional prisoner transports, physical site security, writ services, and judiciary protection. Anchorage is a major population center offering access to outdoor recreation and city amenities.
- The Bethel Court Services Officer position is based full time at the Bethel State Trooper Post with frequent work at the Bethel Courthouse. The work involves paper service, prisoner transports between the jail and court, and courtroom security.
- The Fairbanks Court Services Officer position is based in Fairbanks at the Rabinowitz Courthouse, with duties in judiciary protection and service of court-required documents.
- The Kenai Court Services Officer position is located in Kenai, involving prisoner transports, security, writ services, and judiciary protection.
- 18 years of age or older at time of hire
- High school diploma or GED
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- Not disqualified from any portion of a prior formal background investigation in the last twelve months

Additional requirements include high school graduation (or equivalent) and being 18 or older at time of hire. A valid driver’s license is required at time of hire.
As part of the selection process, an extensive background investigation will be conducted, including: a comprehensive background check, fingerprinting, medical and psychological evaluations, physical agility testing, drug screening, and obtaining a security clearance to access criminal justice information systems. Appointments are conditional on successful completion of all portions of the background process and medical evaluation.
This job class requires the use or possession of firearms or ammunition. In accordance with the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997, individuals with certain domestic violence convictions are disqualified.
INITIAL PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTAll applicants must pass the initial physical fitness test. For details on standards, visit the DPS fitness page. This test can be proctored at a local gym or suitable facility. Applicants will submit results via the applicant tracking system during background documentation.
NOTIFICATION OF NEXT PHASEAlaska State Troopers conducts a thorough background investigation using a web-based applicant tracking platform. Applicants must create a portal login and upload documents within 15 days of invitation. Applicants may need to pay for airfare and lodging for testing. The next testing week is December 8–12, 2025.
