GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Wyoming’s State Parks, Historic Sites, and Trails Division’s Snowmobile Program is authorized to hire up to 14 seasonal positions for the winter of 2025/2026. There are two different types of seasonal positions to be filled as part of this announcement:
Trail Signage Workers (4 positions), and Trail Grooming Workers (6 positions). These positions will provide important winter season services for the State ORV Trails Program. The major employment season is October 15, 2025 through May 15, 2026. The actual length of employment depends on the work location and the type of job performed. Please refer to the Essential Functions for each category of seasonal position we offer for more detailed information about job duties.

Essential Functions

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

Trail Signage Workers — $16.00 - $21.00 per hour

Assist full-time Trails Program staff in the signing and staking of over 2,500 miles of snowmobile trails. This work includes:

  • Installation of signs and stakes at the beginning of the season.
  • Maintaining the signs and stakes as snow accumulates over the winter.
  • Removal of deadfall, prune tree limbs, and keep trails clear of hazards during the winter season.
  • Removal of all stakes and signage materials at the end of the snowmobile season.
Trail Grooming Workers — $16.00 - $22.00 per hour

Provide access to backcountry riding areas while helping to manage risk and the health/safety of visitors:

  • Use of the nine Snowmobile Program-owned Snow Cats to groom all snowmobile trails in nine areas, that include:
    Bear Lodge Mountains near Sundance, the Beartooth Mountains near Cody, Eastern Continental Divide near Lander/South Pass, Granite Hot Springs, and Gros Ventre areas near Jackson, Sherman/Horse Creek area West of Daniel, West side of Snowy Range, and the Sierra Madre Mountains West of Encampment.
Preferences / Agency Requirements

Preference will be given to candidates with at least two (2) years of trail grooming and snow-grooming equipment operation experience. Must be at least 18 years old. Must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of equipment service, maintenance, and operation.
  • Knowledge and experience with trail design standards, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience in construction and signing and of environmental concerns in regard to trail management.
  • Experience in problem-solving handling many priorities and directing work tasks and projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in juggling multiple priorities, and working independently.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions with minimal protection from the elements.
  • Knowledge of reading weather patterns.
  • Skill in MS Word, MS Excel, and Internet Explorer.
  • Knowledge and experience with the use of GPS/ GIS and map reading skills.

Physical Working Conditions
  • Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
