Lead Teacher (Head Start)

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Experience working with preschool aged children (3‑5 years old).
  • Strong commitment to the mission of “To Engage Communities and Coordinate Resources to Improve the Lives of People Experiencing Poverty”.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Creative Curriculum and plan developmentally appropriate individual activities in a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Supervise the classroom Teacher Assistant and other assigned staff.
  • Promote a positive work environment.
  • Plan purchase of classroom materials within the yearly budget.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies used in classroom and playground during group sessions.
  • Participate in scheduled center staff meetings.
  • Develop and implement study themes lesson plans based on individual children’s developmental level, interests, and learning goals.
  • Document required information on weekly progress reports.
  • Conduct appropriate number of family visits.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Show reliable attendance.
  • Organize and manage time effectively.
  • Provide information to parent committees on a regular basis.
  • Maintain appropriate programmatic documentation in each child‑family file.
  • Support family efforts to access community resources.
  • Provide transition information.
  • Physically able and willing to participate in all children’s activities.
  • Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Screen, assess, and observe as needed.
  • Observe and document child’s progress, maintain appropriate records.
  • Provide program information to community organizations.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships.
  • Recruit, train, and utilize volunteers, documenting their contributions.
  • Access community resources to extend learning opportunities with field trips and visitors.
  • Demonstrate interest in formal education to meet Federal degree mandates.
  • Identify own professional growth needs, develop a plan such as CLASS.
  • Stay current in knowledge of child development by participating in education training opportunities.
