Job DescriptionThe Production Operator is responsible for setting up, loading, and operating production machines. The operator ensures product quality meets specifications while maintaining safety for themselves and others. The role may be performed in one of three areas – Spooling, Stranding, or Closing – and is supervised by a Production Supervisor with technical oversight from Process Engineering and Quality.
Duties & Responsibilities- Record set‑up information at the start of each order.
- Remove empty bobbins and load full bundles of wire or bobbins using appropriate lifting devices.
- Weld or knot new wire supply to the trailing end of the previous order, if applicable.
- Thread the machine by pulling wire or strands through guides, tension rollers, and other components.
- Secure, install, and adjust dies, pre‑forming heads, rollers, and rings as required by the order.
- Set the proper lay according to order specifications.
- Adjust tension and die pressure throughout the order.
- Start the lube pump as required.
- Inspect and replace tensioning devices as needed.
- Inspect the set‑change, including measuring helix height before approval from the supervisor.
- Properly tag product, stage in the appropriate storage area, and record all production data.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Perform all duties in accordance with work instructions and quality standards.
- Participate in monthly incentives after probationary training.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Monday – Thursday, 1st shift (5:00 am – 3:00 pm). Training is held on day shifts.
Compensation- Base Pay: $20.61 per hour
- Shift Differential: $1.50 per hour (if applicable)
- Monthly incentive payments based on operational metrics after a 90‑day probationary period.
Required Qualifications
- Fluent in English
- Basic computer skills
- Mathematical and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to use and read measuring tools such as micrometers, tape measures, feeler gauges, and basic hand tools
- Ability to stand/walk on concrete floors for 10–12 hour shifts
- Ability to push/pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions (40–100+ °F)
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Previous manufacturing experience with measuring devices and basic math and mechanical skills
- Strand and wire rope of various diameters and lengths, reels or coils, unassembled reels, paper lagging, tags, seizing wire, blocking, thimbles
- Rewinding machines, stanchions, shafts, collars, bushings, rope cutters, measuring devices, fork trucks, banding equipment, welders, hand tools
- Personal protective equipment: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel‑toed safety shoes
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Applicant must complete a satisfactory background check post‑offer; a criminal conviction is not an automatic bar.
- Must pass a post‑offer drug screen and physical (if required).
