The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher is immediately responsible to the principal for carrying out policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio as they relate to the function of the school, the classroom, and the contact with students and parents.
Position Responsibilities- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Adheres to safety training and protocols and takes precautionary measures to ensure safety and well-being
- Protects confidentiality of information or material obtained in the service to the organization, including client names and information, donors, investigations, and financial information
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
- Demonstrates a solution-oriented approach, collaborates as a team member, and supports the Mission and Vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the school’s curriculum program with written evidence of preparation
- Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations
- Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment aligned to students’ learning styles and needs
- Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the principal
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of Catholic education
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
- Keep informed of and comply with Department of Catholic School regulations and policies for classroom teachers
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree
License and Credentials
- 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards
- Technology proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations
- Demonstrated competency in the subject area(s)
