Assistant Director of Nursing & Campus Executive
- Houston Campus

The Department of Nursing at Texas Lutheran University invites applications for the full-time Assistant Director of Nursing at our Houston campus. This 12-month position provides leadership and support in the administration of the accelerated BSN (ABSN) and Direct-Entry MSN (DEMSN) programs. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing will provide leadership to foster an inclusive and dynamic learning environment and contributing to the mission and strategic goals of the institution

This role requires strong planning, execution, and collaborative skills as well as demonstrated experience in nursing education. A strong candidate will be able to manage a program that is on the Houston campus, requiring an individual who is a strong leader but also able to stay well-connected to the vision and mission of TLU and the Nursing Program. This position will be critical as Texas Lutheran University strengthens its commitment to student success, retention, and engagement, under a renewed commitment to equity, and inclusion.

Required

qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field with at least one graduate degree in Nursing (e.g., Master of Science in Nursing).
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of Texas or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Evidence of at least five years of experience in nursing, with at least 2 years of nursing education and administrative experience.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Faculty at the Houston campus, Director of Nursing, and university leaders to build an environment that is focused on advancing student learning, promoting engagement, and enhancing positive community and climate.
  • Oversee student admissions, retention, and progression on the campus, working with internal and external partners for recruitment and enrollment.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum.
  • Provide leadership in collaboration with the Director of Nursing in meeting accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise faculty and staff at the campus, providing oversight for daily work and completing annual evaluations.
  • Work with the VPASA and Director of Nursing to support faculty development and meet the needs at the Houston campus.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and respectful environment that values civility, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the department and the University.
  • Build community connections to enhance the Department of Nursing’s academic and clinical partnerships to promote excellence in education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with a broad range of students, including students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented populations in nursing
  • Experience in curriculum design and development, evaluation and assessment, and compliance with state board of nursing regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Evidence of successful experience in obtaining/maintaining nursing program accreditation.
  • Successful experience teaching in various formats, including instructional technology, concept-based curriculum, flipped classroom, interprofessional, and team teaching.
  • Experience building and promoting community relationships, including developing partnerships in nursing.
  • Successful implementation of evidence-based practice or research utilization projects.

Texas Lutheran University (TLU) offers dynamic and comprehensive Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and direct-entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) pre-licensure nursing programs designed to prepare students for a successful career in nursing through flexible campus-based, hybrid, and online formats. With multiple pathways tailored to students’ education and experience, TLU offers the BSN as a traditional program on the residential campus and for students who have a non-nursing bachelor’s or associate degree, the Accelerated BSN program is available in hybrid or online formats that can be completed in 16 months.

Additionally, students with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree may enter the direct-entry MSN and complete in as few as 20 months.…
