Salary Ranges
  • Transportation Engineer I (B24): $65,104 – $106,634
  • Transportation Engineer II (B25): $69,572 – $114,099
  • Transportation Engineer III (B26): $76,530 – $129,430
  • Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $84,182 – $142,374
  • Transportation Engineer V (B28): $92,600 – $156,612

Job Duties
  • Assists Project Managers with design, computer operations, plan preparation, plan updates, project development, survey requests and correspondence.
  • Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
  • Performs advanced and complex engineering design work including advanced sketches, plans, specifications and contracts.
  • Updates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and standard sheets.
  • Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
  • Analyzes and assists in the resolution of construction issues, RFIs, and design related issues.
  • Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
  • Serves as lead work, leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others and serves as a project/team lead for advanced and highly complex projects. Will also lead/train professional and administrative staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science (bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS).
  • Experience:

    (experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Graduate level education may substitute for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Valid driver’s license; this position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (state license or plan to obtain within 6 months).
  • Proficiency with Microstation and Open Roads Designer, Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering principles, geotechnical design activities, construction phasing and sequencing, etc.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Strong analytical, logical reasoning, decision-making skills.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
  • Subject to noise.
  • Exposure to hazards such as moving vehicles, mechanical parts, high places or chemicals.
  • Required to wear protective gear (respirator, hard hat, etc.).
  • Fingering‑picking, pinching, typing; primarily with fingers.
  • Talking‑expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
  • Hearing‑perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
  • Repetitive motion—substantial movements of wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Visual acuity—operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment.
