Position: Hat Shaper (Part-Time)

Hat Shapers honor the Murdoch’s mission, values, and principles by providing exceptional customer service and performing day-to-day operations in the Clothing department. The Hat Shaper plays a critical role in carrying on the honored tradition of shaping cowboy hats with outstanding customer service. This position requires previous experience in hat shaping or a related field and creativity with a passion for craftsmanship.

Other requirements include strong product knowledge, a positive, professional attitude and above all honoring Murdoch’s M.V.P.’s and G.E.T. Additionally, the Hat Shaper maintains the look and feel of the department through merchandising, stocking, and accomplishing assigned tasks throughout the workday and throughout the entire department, with their primary focus always on serving our customers.

As a Murdoch's Team Member in this role, you will...
  • Commit to the success of the team by embracing Murdochs’ mission, values, and principles.
  • Shape hats using various techniques, tools, and equipment.
  • Work with a variety of hat materials, such as felt, straw, fabric, and leather.
  • Collaborate with customers to understand and meet specific customization and design preference requirements.
  • Execute customizations, including but not limited to brim width, crown shape, branding, and decorative elements.
  • Conduct quality checks at various stages of the shaping/decorating process to ensure standards are met.
  • Contribute creative ideas for hat designs and shaping techniques by staying up to date on industry trends in hat shaping.
  • Maintain and clean shaping tools and equipment regularly.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or the need for repairs to the Assistant Store Manager of Clothing.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with a focus on the customer’s needs and solutions that meet them, in a manner that makes them feel valued and welcome in our stores.
  • Support the department lead(s) and manager(s) to facilitate the highest standards in merchandising, and store appearance.
  • Merchandise, stock, re-stock, and recover products within the department according to Murdoch’s merchandising standards.
  • Complete inventory pricing and maintenance duties.
  • Develop product knowledge across the breadth of products in the department.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for customers and team members.
  • Communicate effectively and create positive working relationships with team members.
  • Exhibit proper radio and phone etiquette.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while working with tools and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Work with the Assistant Store Manager to develop and achieve goals.
  • Other duties as, throughout the store.
Requirements As a Murdochian in this role, you must...

Physical Demands:
  • Maintain and clean shaping tools and equipment regularly.
  • Stand for a long period of time.
  • Heavy and repetitive lifting (up to 50lbs).
  • Bending, carrying and pushing.
  • Working on a ladder.
  • Repetitive wrist movements on keyboard.
  • Close vision for computer work.
