Non‑Safety Paramedic
The City of Selma, a growing community in California’s Central Valley, is seeking qualified candidates for a Non‑Safety Paramedic position within the Selma Fire Department’s EMS Division. This per‑diem role involves working on an ambulance and providing advanced emergency care to patients en route to medical facilities.
Job OverviewThe successful applicant will deliver high‑quality care, treatment, and transport for all patients in accordance with Fresno County EMS agency protocols and Selma Fire Department policies. The position carries no set hours and no benefits.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Administer Advanced Life Support services to sick and injured patients in the pre‑hospital and inter‑facility settings.
- Maintain, operate, and perform required treatments at the emergency scene, including accurate reporting of patient condition and interventions.
- Assess illness or injury severity to prioritize medical procedures.
- Provide cardiac monitoring, initiate intravenous access, and administer medications.
- Perform advanced airway management and assist in the extrication of trapped victims.
- Transport patients to acute receiving and extended‑care facilities.
- Communicate effectively with base stations and other medical personnel.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude when representing the Selma Fire Department.
- Complete and maintain accurate paperwork and assist in the maintenance of EMS equipment and stations.
- Participate in the department’s public education programs and training division as required.
- Knowledge of local geography, relevant policies, procedures, and protocols applicable to this position.
- Ability to drive an ambulance safely in compliance with traffic laws, maintain records, follow oral and written directions, build cooperative relationships, and operate all ambulance equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. A high‑school diploma or equivalent is required.
Requirements- Current State of California Paramedic License and Fresno County Paramedic Certificate (required prior to employment).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Life Support certifications.
- Current California Ambulance Driver certificate with a valid Medical Examiner’s card.
- Valid Class C California Driver’s License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Requires a high degree of concentration, data analysis, and decision‑making under stress. Physical demands include moderate walking, lifting and moving objects over 100 pounds, climbing, crawling, stooping, bending, and maintaining hand‑eye coordination.
