Police Officer
As a part of an assigned team, Campus Police Officers provide campus safety and law enforcement services to the College community. The individual provides a wide range of services, including both traditional and non-traditional police services. Officers are required to participate in crime prevention and community-oriented public safety programming.
The successful candidate must project a positive image. Individuals enforce College regulations, local ordinances, and state laws. The individual is a first responder to incidents, accidents, and other emergency situations, and is responsible for conducting initial and follow-up investigations into significant and criminal incidents. The individual will work under the direction of an assigned officer.
Overtime is mandatory.
This is an entry level, sworn campus police position.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent; some college education preferred
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must have never been convicted of a felony or domestic violence
- Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation
- Must have completed an accredited Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, have completed an equivalent law enforcement training program approved by the Mississippi Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, or be able to complete the basic Police Academy course
The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Successful candidates will participate in various training and development programs to ensure she/he acquires the technical and professional knowledge and skills needed for success in the position. The individual must successfully complete these programs to continue employment.
These programs include, but are not limited to, the following: certified police academy, field training and evaluation program, first aid/CPR certification, and others.
Physical Demands and Work Environment- Must be flexible to work all shifts when needed that includes weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work.
- Must be able to remain on feet for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, pull, push, climb, balance, walk, and run.
- Must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry adults of varying weights.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including firearms, automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone, etc.
- Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures and loud noises.
- The work environment involves moderate exposure to hazards and physical risk to personal safety. The candidate must be physically fit and able to defend one’s self from attack or physical assault.
The successful candidate must be able to work ALL shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
