Paramedic-Critical Care, Oconee-Ambulance Services (Full-time, Variable) — Prisma Health

Job Summary:

Provides high quality pre-hospital and inter-facility advanced life support including assessment triage, and treatment utilizing established Clinical Operating Guidelines approved by the Prisma Health Mobile Care Medical Control, with scope of practice; assesses the nature and extent of the illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of the critical care patient to an appropriate facility. Is qualified to provide care for patients across the lifespan in assigned clinical area.

Assures that safety remains the highest priority throughout the transport continuum. Supports MCAS daily operations. When assigned, the Critical Care Paramedic will provide operational oversight of an assigned shift in absence of the assigned supervisor.

• Provides pre-hospital advanced life support care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation and completes prior to end of shift. Functions within the scope of practice as defined by state and national regulations
• Attends a minimum of eight (8) critical care educational programs per year pertinent to practice.
• Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to ensure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies on board ambulance to deliver patient care. Keeps truck clean and orderly to insure rapid response to all requests.
• Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals and the public.
• Provides one of the following roles on an ongoing basis:
  Training, Clinical Quality Assurance, Logistics/Supplies, Compliance, Capital Equipment, Research/Analytics, Internal Communications, and Critical Care Team Liaison. All Critical Care Paramedics may be assigned as a Field Training Officer (FTO) for new employee orientation or those in need of additional training or oversight.
• Performs POC testing with approval of Administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

• Education - Approved Paramedic Education Program
• Experience - Three (3) years as a paramedic

The required active South Carolina AND National Registry EMS certification meets the educational requirements for this role.

• Paramedic, National Registry Certified in state in which work is performed
• A valid driver’s license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart.
• BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Must hold one of the following critical care certifications: CFRN; FP-C; CCP-C; CCEMTP
• PHTLS - PHTLS; ITLS - ITLS (PREFERRED)

• Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)
• Proficient computer skills
• Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies
• Ability to maintain competency in knowledge and skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
