The Packaging R&D Laboratory Technician supports the development, validation, and standardization of packaging solutions by performing laboratory tests, simulations and evaluations on packaging materials and systems. The role ensures that packaging concepts, materials, and technologies comply with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and performance criteria, contributing to innovation, quality, and sustainability objectives. The role also includes the management and maintenance of the packaging R&D laboratory, SOP and technical documentation of equipment and calibration schedules.

Key Responsibilities And Activities

Conduct laboratory tests on primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging materials (e.g. plastics, paperboard, glass, metals, laminates)

Execute standard and non-standard test methods (e.g. mechanical, barrier, physical, functional testing) according to internal procedures and international standards

Prepare samples, prototypes, and test setups to support R&D projects, standards development, and technology evaluations

Support packaging trials, pilot tests, and comparative evaluations of materials and suppliers

Support the development, maintenance, and validation of global packaging standards and specifications

Support project teams by providing timely technical testing support

Assist in evaluating new packaging technologies, materials, and testing methodologies

Ensure test methods and laboratory activities are aligned with internal standards, industry norms, and regulatory frameworks

Contribute data and technical input to standards documentation, technical guidelines, and best practices

Accurately record test conditions, results, and observations in laboratory systems and reports

Analyse test results and prepare clear technical summaries and data packages for R&D stakeholders

Maintain traceability and consistency of test data to support decision-making and audits

Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration, maintenance, and readiness

Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes, test methods, and workflows

Ensure compliance with laboratory safety rules, quality systems, and good laboratory practices (GLP)

Manage laboratory consumables and support inventory control related to testing activities

Maintains active relationships and technical alignment with packaging laboratories across the organization, promoting consistency and knowledge sharing

Contribute to the operational and development overview of the Technical Specification repository platform, including managing massive uploads, consistent changes, integration of missing parameters, and other required technical tasks

Experience Required
2–5 years of experience in a packaging, materials, or industrial laboratory environment (R&D or quality).

Experience with laboratory testing equipment and standardized test methods is preferred.

Education / Professional Qualifications

Technical Diploma or associate degree in one of the following fields:
Packaging Technology, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing or Process Technology
