Position Overview

We are seeking a Project & Cost Accountant to support project financial performance, manufacturing cost analysis, inventory controls, and monthly financial reporting. This cross-functional role partners with Project Management, Commercial, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to ensure accurate project costing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who enjoys combining financial analysis with operational collaboration, improving processes, and helping build scalable accounting practices within an evolving manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities Project Accounting & Revenue Recognition

Partner with Project Management and Commercial teams to review project progress, costs incurred, estimated costs to complete, expected margins, milestones, and scope changes.

Maintain monthly percentage-of-completion (POC) schedules supporting revenue and gross profit recognition under ASC 606.

Analyze project performance, investigate margin fluctuations and cost overruns, and identify potential loss-making contracts.

Prepare project-related journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting for revenue, costs, contract assets, and contract liabilities.

Support project closeout by reviewing final costs, revenue, billing, and outstanding commitments.

Cost & Inventory Accounting

Develop and maintain inventory controls covering receipts, transfers, project allocations, valuation, reconciliations, and physical counts.

Reconcile inventory and project cost data across Sage 300, I5, M1, Excel spreadsheets, and operational records, researching and resolving discrepancies.

Support manufacturing cost and variance analysis, including material, labor, overhead, usage, and purchase-price variances.

Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to improve job costing, work-in-process (WIP) reporting, and inventory accuracy.

Assist with cycle counts, physical inventories, and corrective-action follow-up.

General Accounting & Process Improvement

Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including intercompany accounts, inventory, and project-related balances.

Support monthly and year-end close, journal entries, external audits, and the transition toward accrual accounting and U.S. GAAP compliance.

Document accounting procedures, strengthen internal controls, and identify opportunities to streamline manual processes.

Participate in data cleanup, testing, and implementation activities supporting a future transition to Global Shop ERP.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in project accounting, cost accounting, inventory accounting, or general ledger accounting.
  • Working knowledge of accrual accounting, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and U.S. GAAP fundamentals.
  • Strong Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and analyzing large datasets.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and meet deadlines.
Preferred
  • Experience with ASC 606, percentage-of-completion or cost-to-cost revenue recognition, and long-term contracts.
  • Manufacturing experience with inventory, WIP, job costing, standard costing, or manufacturing variances.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and improving accounting processes or internal controls.
What Success Looks Like
  • Accurate, timely project financial reporting and POC schedules.
  • Clear visibility into project margins, cost trends, and financial risks.
  • Improved inventory accuracy and manufacturing cost controls.
  • Reliable reconciliations, a more efficient close process, and stronger documentation.
  • Effective collaboration between Finance, Project Management, Commercial, and Operations.
