AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You will partner with AWS stakeholders to develop regional and site‑specific development strategies, lead environmental due diligence for site selection and acquisition, develop and execute environmental permitting strategies, manage environmental compliance during design and construction, and prepare for data center operations.
The role requires regular engagement throughout the development lifecycle with multiple AWS stakeholders and external stakeholders including regulatory agencies, consultants, and contractors.
- Assess environmental risks and requirements and develop mitigations and strategies to support data center siting and development strategies and site‑specific project delivery.
- Lead technical aspects of environmental due diligence, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, regulatory and permitting evaluations, and natural, biological and cultural resource evaluations.
- Deliver environmental permits, approvals, and plans to enable on‑time and compliant construction and operations for new data center locations and expansion of existing sites.
- Communicate environmental requirements, risks, and activities to internal and external project partners.
- Coordinate with partner teams including Design, Water, Legal, Risk, Power, and others to optimize site designs to consider natural resource or operational constraints.
- Develop site development and permitting strategies that are environmentally responsible and sustainable while meeting project timelines.
- Lead regulatory agency interactions and negotiations in support of environmental permit acquisition and regional development strategies.
- Develop, manage and track metrics to evaluate project success.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience delivering multi‑media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance for existing sites and new development.
- 5+ years experience conducting environmental due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs and support for investigative and remedial activities.
- At least 3 years of project or task management experience for environmental permitting and/or due diligence projects.
- Data center or critical infrastructure due diligence, design, construction, and/or risk assessment experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in multiple states within the U.S. (preferably in OH, MO, and IN).
- Experience managing and supporting community/public interactions.
- Experience with Smartsheets or other project management software.
- Up to 25% travel.
- Experience working with large teams on a diverse slate of projects.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700 per year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,800 per year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
