Responsibilities
The Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Coordinator is responsible for supporting Sevier County Government by expanding training and educational opportunities related to drug endangered children and their families. Primary responsibilities include coordinating with local organizations, law enforcement, schools, and community partners to develop and maintain a Sevier County DEC response team; assisting with prevention and intervention initiatives; supporting evidence-based strategies through the Department and Sevier County C.A.R.E.S.;
and participating in meetings, work groups, and conferences as designated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) or the Director of Alcohol and Drug Programs. This position also supports community and school-based events, develops promotional and educational materials and media campaigns related to alcohol and drug abuse prevention, maintains required program data and reporting, and travels as needed to meet program objectives.
Job performance will be evaluated by the Department Director based on the effectiveness of partnerships and response team coordination, quality and timeliness of data entry and reporting, ability to support prevention programming and evidence-based strategies, organizational skills, initiative and independent work, communication, and professionalism in working with county staff and community partners.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of a Drug Endangered Children (DEC) response team within Sevier County to support children impacted by drug endangered environments.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with local organizations, law enforcement, schools, county departments, and other community partners involved in DEC response efforts.
- Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating prevention and intervention initiatives to meet identified community needs.
- Supports the Department and Sevier County C.A.R.E.S. in assessing the effectiveness of implemented evidence-based prevention strategies.
- Assists with community and school-based outreach activities, events, and program initiatives related to alcohol and drug abuse prevention.
- Develops and distributes promotional and educational materials, including media campaigns relating to alcohol and drug abuse prevention.
- Enters, maintains, accesses, and assists with analyzing program data in required databases and software systems.
- Ensures all reporting and documentation requirements are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participates in scheduled meetings, work groups, and conferences as designated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) or the Director of Alcohol and Drug Programs.
- Stays up to date on research, evidence-based programs, and strategies relating to prevention, intervention, and treatment of substance misuse.
- Travels as required to support program activities, trainings, meetings, and events.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Tennessee driver’s license and to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates.
- Ability to complete TBI-required courses and meet all training requirements for the position.
- Ability to pass a physical and drug screen administered through a licensed physician.
- Associates degree in social services, criminal justice, or another related field.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Competencies- Knowledge of disease concepts of alcoholism and substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and the impact of substance misuse on children and families.
- Knowledge of principles and practices used in the development and implementation of alcohol and drug abuse prevention, education, and intervention programs.
- Working knowledge of community resources, organizations, and agencies relevant to prevention services and child welfare response efforts.
