This position is responsible for developing written and visual communications that strengthen the Alaska Sea Life Center’s brand, identity, and reputation.
The apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience creating content and graphic designs, with a strong focus on educational programs. Under the guidance of ASLC’s Marketing and Communications team, the intern will assist in producing materials for educational initiatives, newsletters, digital platforms, and collaborative projects such as the CORaL Network.
Education / Training Requirements:Applicants must be college graduates or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a background or coursework in a related field.
For full consideration, candidates must submit a portfolio of graphic design and writing samples with their application and resume. Candidates are encouraged to include other communications skills, such as video, photography, social media content, and more, in their portfolios.
Responsibilities:- Assist in creating graphic designs and written content that support ASLC’s communication and outreach initiatives, including projects with the Education Department and CORaL Network.
- Supports the collection, organization, development, and delivery of engaging educational content for diverse audiences through graphic design and writing, supporting both learning and communications goals while meeting project deadlines.
- Develops content for digital platforms, such as digital signage, some social media content, and email campaigns.
- Develops content for print media, such as educational workbooks, visuals for marketing educational events, and activity sheets.
- Collaborate cross‑departmentally to ensure branding, storytelling, and learning goals align, working directly with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure consistency.
- Maintain an organized catalog of visual assets for broader Center use.
- Creates well‑written copy that is free from mistakes.
- Works on other educational and communications projects as assigned.
- Willingness to take initiative and motivation to seek new storytelling opportunities.
- Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
- Complies with all Alaska Sea Life Center policies, procedures, and programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to speak effectively and be comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with guests.
- Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs.
- Strong visual storytelling skills and a creative eye for detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized, self‑motivated, and able to manage multiple projects.
- Team player with a willingness to learn and collaborate.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, mission‑focused environment.

Paid Apprenticeship & Housing:Paid apprenticeship with housing included as part of compensation.
