PositionPurpose
This part‑time role requires designing and creating costumes for Concordia University's Theatre Department activities, and extending the students' knowledge and experience in the costume shop. It includes communication and coordination of people and activities, planning, follow‑through, and management of students and materials. Must be at least 19 years of age.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Director of Theatre, show directors, designers, and other creatives to design, create, and/or obtain (buy/rent/borrow) costumes for 2‑3 mainstage shows and support other student‑directed productions.
- Help manage and train a crew of students with assistance from student shop employees.
- Work alongside student workers to construct and alter costumes that meet production, safety, and quality expectations.
- Maintain costume and makeup shop inventory, including equipment and supplies, and manage the shop scheduling, inventory, and storage.
- Maintain materials inventory and machinery/tool functionality.
- Communicate with interested parties to secure stock costume items for rent and arrange rental returns and associated payments.
- Assist the Costume and Makeup Design course by teaching class students about shop tools and techniques and monitoring required lab hours.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: BA or BFA in theatre or other clothing/fashion‑related field.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a theatre setting, supervisor experience, proficiency with tools, equipment, and materials for constructing apparel, training workers, familiarity with clothing/fashion styles, patterns, costume construction for theatre, makeup application for theatre, safety and OSHA standards, collaboration skills, high levels of tact and ownership, self‑starter in systems coordination, humble and teachable demeanor, experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, proficiency with budgets.
