Position DescriptionConcordia University, Nebraska is seeking a part-time adjunct instructor to teach an in‑person course for our Paul Scholars academic community. This course is an innovative work‑education program that bridges academic learning with hands‑on workplace coaching. Each student is hand‑selected into the program and maintains a 15 hrs/wk campus internship as part of a four‑year scholarship. You are shaping work‑education students into confident communicators and change leaders now and in off‑campus internships next year.
This isn't traditional teaching—you're developing emerging leaders who will graduate ready to start “on the 2nd or 3rd floor,” not the ground floor like most.
- Teach one section of "Followership 2" with 10 Paul Scholars students in their second year of a four‑year program.
- Collaborate with the Paul Scholars Director to coordinate classroom learning with workplace practice and maintain curriculum integrity.
- Integrate content from course text with competency development and real workplace challenges and prepare students for off‑campus work placement the following school year.
- Develop Scholars' ability to work with their Mentor to identify, plan, and implement positive changes in their work environments while building support and managing resistance.
- Guide Scholars in Portfolio documentation to capture competency development with workplace evidence.
- Use active, engaging teaching methods to enhance student learning through direct instruction, discussion, and hands‑on practice with team debriefing.
- Assess, evaluate, and monitor student progress with accurate class records; provide timely feedback to students.
- Develop Scholars' ability to mentor incoming students and prepare for advanced leadership roles within the program and their future careers.
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with a practicing professional.
- Possess ability to establish working relationships with students, peers, faculty members, the administrative team, and the community.
- Successful and innovative teaching experience, using technology to support all aspects of teaching.
- Evidence of bridging classroom learning or training with real‑world application; in the workplace or similar setting.
- A candidate who is an active Christian is required. Preference may be given to members of the Lutheran Church‑Missouri Synod.
- Earned master’s degree or demonstrated professional achievement in business, leadership, or a closely related field.
- College‑level teaching experience or adult professional development preferred.
- Professional experience in subject area preferred.
- Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 3:30 for 16 weeks, January to May.
- All courses include lecture, discussion, and active skill‑building 2 ½ hours per week, plus student interaction before or after class.
- Contract may be renewed for future academic terms. Other courses in the Vocational Leadership minor program will be offered for adjunct teaching.
- Additional time per week for class and activity preparation, grading, and student questions is expected. The Paul Scholars director will assist with event planning and follow‑up with the students’ Work Mentors.
