About

The Role

The sanitation technician (day & mid‑shift) is responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary production facility. This role requires strong communication, interpersonal and team‑building skills to support site production goals. The position specializes in sanitation and housekeeping throughout the entire site to provide a clean, safe, and orderly environment at our Seward, Nebraska freeze‑dry pet food facility.

Job Functions
  • Work safely, complying with all safety, quality and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Proactively identify and report potential safety hazards so they can be corrected.
  • Ensure production and non‑production rooms are adequately maintained in a sanitary condition at the beginning of the day and throughout the production process.
  • Verify functionality of hand wash/hand sanitary stations, chemical inventory, boot sanitary equipment, and waste management tools.
  • Clean high‑touch points and floors of debris and product waste.
  • Perform sanitation duties as required by the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  • Remove product from equipment, tools, and containers using water hoses and industrial cleaners/sanitizers.
  • Promote a high‑quality team environment through effective teamwork and self‑management with a positive attitude.
  • Prioritize work daily by identifying pressing issues, communicating with direct team leads/supervisors, and understanding shift production plans.
  • Understand microbiological and pest control programs as they pertain to sanitation in the food manufacturing environment.
  • Work with all teams at the site on sanitation projects.
  • Use an industrial chemical dispensing system.
  • Clean/sanitize high food‑safety risk areas in our packaging rooms.
  • Work cross‑functionally in multiple positions and prioritize tasks.
  • Mix chemicals safely for industrial sanitation equipment (floor scrubbers, dishwashers, foamers, etc.).

In performing their responsibilities, employees are expected to perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision, interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers, and work effectively as both a team contributor and an independent contributor while understanding the necessity for communication across the organization.

About You
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to plan work daily, work independently, and be a self‑starter and highly motivated individual.
  • Ability to work with a team and effectively interact with other departments.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • One year of experience cleaning/sanitizing equipment in a food manufacturing environment.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 60 pounds; climb stairs; kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively during a 10‑12 hour shift.
  • Work frequently indoors in a cooled, sanitary environment at temperatures 45° F or below.
  • Frequently around loud production equipment.
  • Exposure to chemical hazards and abrasive chemicals.
  • Slip, trip and fall hazards due to water, chemicals, and product on the floors.
