AboutThe Role
The Sanitation Team Lead is responsible for assisting and supporting the Sanitation Manager leading the day and mid-shift sanitation team. Responsibilities include troubleshooting process issues and serving as the shift subject matter expert. The Sanitation Team Lead will be required to ensure all safety, quality and sanitary production standards are met to maintain sanitary conditions of our Seward, Nebraska Freeze Dry Petfood Facility.
- Work safely, complying with all safety, quality and sanitation policies and procedures and proactively identify and report potential safety hazards so they can be corrected.
- Assist Sanitation Manager to effectively mentor, train and coach the day and mid-shift sanitation team members to drive engagement, inclusion as well as focus on internal customer service.
- Assist Sanitation Manager to plan cleaning schedules and proper allocation of resources (labor, supplies, equipment and time) while planning and executing successful changeovers, sanitation weekends and daily activities.
- Enforce sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) and master sanitation schedule (MSS); support development and maintain the sanitation manual; understand cGMP practices which help ensure the safety within the workplace and the production of safe and quality product(s).
- Assist in creating and adjusting schedules for employees to prepare the plant to be audit‑ready every day.
- Assist managing chemical and consumable inventory levels throughout the plant daily.
- Adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOPs), carrying out duties following cGMP and 5S practices, and being responsible for hygiene and housekeeping in a specified work area.
- Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other departments including Safety, Production, Maintenance, FSQ, HR and Logistics.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to plan work daily, work independently and be a self-starter and a highly motivated individual.
- Ability to work with a team and effectively interact with other departments.
- 1 year of sanitation leadership experience in food manufacturing; 2 years of sanitation leadership experience in food manufacturing without preferred education and certifications.
- AS or BS Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or other related degree.
- Certifications for PCQI (Preventive Control Qualified Individual), HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) or related Food Safety and Sanitation training courses.
- Lift up to 60 pounds, climb stairs, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively throughout a 10–12-hour shift.
- This position requires frequent indoor work in a cooled sanitary environment with temperatures 45 degrees or below.
- Frequently around loud production equipment.
- Chemical hazards; abrasive chemicals.
- Slip, trip and fall hazards due to water, chemical and product on the floors.
