Job Description

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Cashier/Checker is responsible for greeting, engaging, and assisting customers actively and visibly.

Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently at the check lane.

Understand and operate the Point of Sale (POS) system; handle various tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, loyalty offers, coupons, and checkout procedures per company policy.

Adhere to the company's cash shortage and overage limits and work to control loss honestly and effectively.

Follow guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs).

Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.

Follow established policies for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.

Stay updated on current, upcoming, seasonal, and special ads.

Comply with all food safety regulations and guidelines.

Reinforce safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions or accidents, and notify management.

Inspect equipment regularly and report repairs needed.

Create a welcoming environment, answering questions about products storewide.

Follow all applicable laws and company guidelines.

Work cooperatively in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

Manage conflicts reasonably and cooperatively.

Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.

Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.

Support and assist minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Customer service experience
Effective communication skills
Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction)

Desired Previous Job Experience:

Customer service experience
Experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk
