Overview

Safety Advisor role in Wasco, CA. This Job Description includes activities assigned specifically to the Training and Safety Manager. All GMPs and SOPs should be followed in conjunction with all Food Safety and Food Quality requirements and guidelines.

Purpose:

Proactively promote the health and safety of Vendors, Clients, and Employees.

Summary of Position

The Safety Advisor will provide leadership and guidance to the team, working alongside them to uphold a culture of illness- and injury-free workplace practices for Vendors, Clients, and Employees. This position reports directly to the HR Manager and is based out of Wasco, CA.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operations of all safety-related processes; develop employees to improve performance, productivity, and safety culture.
  • Plan, establish, implement, direct, and maintain health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure employee safety.
  • Analyze practices to align with organizational goals and act as the Safety Department spokesperson in networking and business-related functions.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by management outside the standard job description.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Follow safety cautions and report hazards to supervisors promptly.
Essential Job Functions
  • Formulate and recommend safety standards, policies, and procedures; advise management on corrective actions to reduce safety risks.
  • Monitor and update safety regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Provide EHS training to new hires and review training with employees after incidents.
  • Intervene in at-risk activities; conduct pre-hire orientations to promote safety culture.
  • Perform drug screening for new hires and current employees; maintain safety training documentation.
  • Conduct routine safety meetings and site-specific training; provide internal safety training for staff and safety team members.
  • Review and implement Cal/OSHA regulatory requirements for compliance (confined space, machine guarding, hazard recognition, hazard communication, LOTO, respiratory protection, blood-borne pathogens, PPE).
  • Identify and evaluate hazards; coordinate on-site inspections; advise on compliance regulations.
  • Develop and implement Haz Mat procedures; manage hazard controls derived from Job Hazard Analysis (JHA); measure effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct Job Site Safety Analyses (JSA) across departments; prevent exposure to hazardous substances and other risks.
  • Assess incidents, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions; manage Incident/Accident reporting files; communicate with medical facilities as needed.
  • Coordinate daily safety communications with Management and HR; develop relationships with department leadership, Vendors, and employees.
  • Manage Cal/OSHA recordkeeping, reporting, and employee training; ensure timely filing of OSHA/Cal/OSHA data.
  • Review, provide feedback on incident reports; monitor JSA and incident tracking databases.
  • Ensure the Safety department meets organizational risk management metrics; manage Workers’ Comp with service providers.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor a professional safety leadership team; conduct quarterly safety report audits.
  • Provide guidance to department leadership and employees on safety concerns; facilitate monthly safety committee meetings with department representatives.
  • Maintain documentation for performance discussions, job duties, risk assessments, and PPE recommendations; review cost analyses on safety-related purchases.
  • Provide operational support to all members of the organization and continuously review safety practices for effectiveness across departments.
  • Assist with evaluations, guidance, enforcement, and corrective actions related to department safety standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements Of Position Knowledge
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, first-aid facilities, safety signs, protective clothing, and PPE.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
  • General Human Resources knowledge regarding employment.
  • PC proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Principles of customer service and business/leadership techniques.
