Job SummaryNortek Data Center Cooling is looking for a motivated individual to join our Thermal Test Lab as a Senior Test Lab Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience in a laboratory setting or possess HVACR field/manufacturing experience, high attention to detail, and capability to lead, setup/operate/analyze complex HVACR systems. The successful candidate will be expected to operate and maintain laboratory equipment, execute a wide range of testing standards, and conduct thermodynamic, mechanical, and electrical analysis based upon existing standards and best practices.
This person will manage multiple project activities in parallel and nooit projects through completion. Must have ability to coach and mentor junior engineers to develop best practice habits and uphold quality standards and integrity.
- All duties to be conducted under COB guidance of the Lab Director
- Conduct a wide variety of thermodynamic tests in conjunction with Design and Application Engineers, including range validation tests on Evaporative Coolers, Fan‑Coil conditioners, Coolant Distribution Units, and more.
- Review test requests and assign practical timetables and schedules for executing the test programs.
- Design of test fixtures including duct work, mechanical structures, controls, and measurement devices.
- Manage execution of testing plan including set‑up, test, troubleshooting, analysis, teardown, and report of findings.
- Manage maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Conduct witness testing for an approving authority at either our facility or the agency’s facility.
- Work as a mentor and example to more junior test engineers.
- Contribute to the creation of customer test plans and compile test results for the final test report.
- Collaborate with other departments such as engineering, sales and procurement on test and product functions.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager.
- BSME from an accredited university, or applicable engineering work experience.
- 8+ years of engineering work experience, HVAC highly preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to think strategically, solve problems and provide innovative solutions to customer challenges.
- LabVIEW or similar data acquisition systems.
- Proven experience in testing within the data center cooling industry, HVAC or HVAC‑related field.
- Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards.
- Self‑starter and must be able to work cross‑functionally.
- Must have excellent verbal nouve wrote, and written communication skills.
- MSME or Ph.D. is a plus.
- Previous experience in HVAC laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE/AMCA/ISO/ANSI/ARI testing standards and AHRI rating criteria.
