Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced ISP Laser Engineer to develop and optimize laser-based manufacturing processes for glass optical fibers used in high-performance fiber optic connectors for AI data centers.

The engineer will support the development, testing, and qualification of laser processes and integrate laser systems into automated manufacturing equipment. The role involves working closely with mechanical, controls, automation, and manufacturing teams to improve product quality, process efficiency, and production yield.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize laser processes for glass optical fiber preparation, including coating removal, cleaving, and end-face shaping.
  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DoE) to identify optimal laser processing parameters.
  • Improve process quality, yield, and capability using Six Sigma and SPC methodologies.
  • Integrate laser systems into automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Select and evaluate lasers, optics, beam delivery systems, and related hardware.
  • Perform process testing and validation using optical metrology equipment.
  • Troubleshoot laser systems and manufacturing process issues.
  • Prepare SOPs, process specifications, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate with laser equipment suppliers and ensure compliance with laser safety standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Physics, Optics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial laser systems, such as fiber, CO₂, solid-state, picosecond, or femtosecond lasers.
  • Strong understanding of laser-material interactions, particularly with glass and optical fibers.
  • Experience transitioning laser processes from R&D to production.
  • Knowledge of DoE, Six Sigma, SPC, and process capability analysis (Cpk).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with laser processing of glass optical fibers or fiber optic connectors.
  • Knowledge of interferometry, confocal microscopy, SEM, and optical metrology.
  • Experience with beam delivery systems, galvo scanners, and beam profiling.
  • Programming knowledge in Python, MATLAB, C++, CNC, G-Code, or M-Code.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Solid Works.
  • Laser Safety Officer (LSO) or Certified Laser Safety Officer (CLSO) certification.
